Google Meet Overview

The New Features in Google Meet is pretty good. Google Meet is an online video-conferencing service available for anyone with a Google Account. People can create a meeting with up to 100 participants and continue the discussion for up to 1 hour.

The Premium Version of Google Meet lets you have up to 250 external or internal participants and live streaming options to up to 100,000 viewers per domain.

For personal use, you can sign up or in your Google account. For business use, you would need to have a Google Workspace account.

You can access Google Meet without downloading it on PC and installing the mobile app on Android or iOS.

Google Meet has been a strong rival to similar services like Skype, TeamViewer, etc. All of them provide quite similar services when it comes to performance or speed, and reliability. Google Meets and the others lost the fight when Zoom took over everything else. People during the pandemic just rushed to pursue their online classes and education programs through the free meeting platform – Zoom. They just turned into a billionaire platform putting aside others. Slowly but gradually, Google Meets and the alike platforms are starting to come back after the defeat from the newcomer.

Now, the big boys are more engaged than ever to bring more and more features to keep the users engaged and bring in more new customers than before. So, the attempts result in new features like these mentioned below. It is interesting to see how a simple app that went viral can affect the literal bosses of the technology world and their policymaking. Now, the new features in Google Meet will be discussed.

New Features in Google Meet

Peripheral Status

The Google Workspace Meet Admins can now access two new columns on the Device List page. One is ‘Peripheral Status,’ and another is ‘Connection Status.’ These column lists will help users to filter devices and troubleshoot issues easier. Besides, the new column management widget will help people create customized views. The first of the three new features in Google Meet is completed.

Default Volume

You can now use two new options while setting up the default volume behaviour on Google Meet:

  • Preset Volume Mode: A Value between 0-100 can be set to use automatically at the beginning of every call.
  • Smart Volume Mode: This mode will automatically determine the best volume level considering users’ volume in the five recent calls.

For a Single Device, the default volume option can be set from its Device Detail Page. For a group of devices, admins should use the bulk action option from the Device List page.

Note: End Users can still modify their volume levels despite the Default Volume. The second of the three new features in Google Meet is completed.

Static Device List URLs

Device List Filters will now be encoded into the Page’s unique URL. This will help the admins to bookmark a customized view or share it among team members. The third one of the new features in Google Meet is completed.

Last Words of New Features in Google Meet

The Updates are only accessible for Admins under Devices > Google Meet Hardware. As for the Normal Users, no further action from their side is required. The Update is available to all Google Workspace customers in organizations with Google Meet Hardware.

After all, Google Meet is also not that old in terms of release date and stable release. Started only four years ago, this platform is gaining much praise and support from its users, and to be honest, the only platform I myself and my company use other than Zoom is Google Meet nowadays.

The speed, connection, etc., everything is just as perfect as possible, and when you are in a meeting important enough to lose your job, you better bet on Google Meet. The meeting time limits are actually far better than Zoom, with seemingly no limits at all. So, we should all help Google Meet and similar platforms which focus on customer care to come forward, ignoring the viral but unsafe platform.
