Tata Communications is one of the industry leaders in terms of cloud, mobility, Internet of Things (IoT), collaboration, security, and network services, etc.

Tata is one of the oldest players in terms of experiences and scalability. They have expanded over the years in multiple fields just like our Big Boy Google here. They like to expand their business grasp over other companies and fields to establish a large empire which is seen today. Tata Group of Industries was just a company of India half a century ago but today it stands as one of the most widespread industries over all of the world. This amazing and spectacular feat was not achieved in one day.

The struggles and failures of Tata Group in their way above are beyond any mention. But since we are here discussing both Tata Communications and Google, we should at least know something about a branch of Tata Group, Tata Communications itself, which is a very big and dominant branch of Tata.

Here are some quick facts about Tata Communications:

  • Present in more than 200 countries and territories around the world
  • Serves over 7,000 customers globally that represents over 300 of the Fortune 500
  • Connects 4 out of 5 mobile subscribers worldwide
  • Connects businesses to 60% of the world’s cloud giants
  • Operates the largest wholly-owned and most advanced subsea fiber network which underpins the internet backbone, where its network carries around 30% of the world’s internet routes
  • Its Internet of Things network in India will be the world’s largest network of its kind, spanning nearly 2,000 communities and touching over 400 million people
  • Listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India, Tata Communications’ revenue stood at INR 17,068 Cr in FY20

Note: Information given in the above points is inherited from the about us page of Tata Communications.

So basically, in a nutshell, Tata is one of the major Internet Backbone out there, controlling around 30% of the internet routes.

How is this partnership beneficial for Google Cloud and Tata Communications?

Tata Communications is going to support organizations with services across infrastructure modernization, data center transformation, application modernization, smart analytics, multi-cloud deployments, and more. Tata’s managed Cloud is going to improve performance and drive business growth. The single-pane-of-glass orchestration tool of Tata Cloud will offer a unified cloud experience.

In order to modernize applications seamlessly, Tata Services can also manage Kubernetes on GCP.

Rajesh Awasthi, Global Head of Cloud and Managed Hosting Services at Tata Communications quotes:

“The present needs on industries to manage and optimize their cloud platforms has never been more essential, especially in the wake of COVID-19 and our increasing dependence on a cloud system, as companies migrate to Google Cloud, they need a companion that will support them over their entire IT environment and deliver a one and only cloud management platform that offers higher transparency, control, and security of their data and applications.”

On the other hand, Amitabh Jacob (Head of Partners and Alliances at Google Cloud India) quotes:

“The real exam of 2021 will be how organizations adopt a cloud-first system. Through our partnership with Tata Communications, we will be able to deliver our customers with unified, end-to-end management that will remove the complexity in cloud management and help them convert at speed and scale.”

Final Words

Tata Communications Cloud capabilities are very much capable of being a Tier-1 network along with its 14 cloud nodes. As a result, we can expect much more fluency in the operations of organizations from now on that is based on Google Cloud India.
